For variety of reasons, I've been doing some planning, moreso focusing on "how long will my nest egg last". Of course the main variables are return on investment, and inflation.

General Questions:

1.)What's YOUR personal inflation rate, and is that over the last year? 10 years?

IMO it's somewhat different from everybody in that some expenses inflate, others may not.

2.)Say you had a nest-egg you are leaving behind for a PASSIVE, NOVICE investor..point being minimal risks. The life-span of said person would be 40 years. Is the following somewhat realistic?

Avg yearly return on investments: 2.8%

Avg yearly inflation: 3%

Thanks for any opinions. JediG
