Sure. Without home equity I'd be well-short of $1M. With it...well, I think I'm still a little short, but pretty close (including brokerage, 401K, etc).

Regarding taxes, 1poorlady was surprised we owed this year. I pointed out some stock gains we had. She was complaining the taxes were high, but I pointed out they were only a portion of the realized gains so I didn't mind paying the taxes (because the gain was a lot more)! I much prefer that than having to write-off losses.
