... I haven't really considered the state taxation of retirement income yet, but if I were to ignore tax considerations, and if I were retiring now, my first choice would be Corvallis, Oregon....

FYI, there isn’t any sales tax there and the car registration fees are only $55 for two years! This helps offset the income taxes and property taxes.

I used to live in Portland. Corvallis and Eugene will be two of the places we will eventually look at retiring to.

Be sure to check out the air quality, surprisingly enough there are some problems there. The mountains form a bowl and can trap the air pollution in the winter when there is a thermal inversion.
