Ok, I give up. What significance does 1902 have that every one keeps refering to it?

It has something to do with the tag line of a "wise" investment firm.....don't know which one, though. I've seen the explanation behind that saying at least 20 times now...you'd think I'd remember.

Simple. State of Washington has 8% sales tax in some locations. If you divide $19.02 by 1.08, you get $17.61, which is the original purchase price.

Never for no reason! I gave you the true answer! It has nothing to do with Dow! At least I don't think so, but like I said, I'll tell you anything you want to know, just might not always be true, LOL!

So for all of you who didn't know why posters refer to 1902, Deannda has posted the answer on the HH&R board.

Now now, children, let Papi Brrrg Sort this out. Here's how it all works out:

1) Charles Dow co-founded the DJIA on May 26, 1896. There were 12 stocks in the index.

2) 1902 was the year Charles Dow died.

3) Wanting to be as well-respected as Charles Dow, who just died, all of the "full-service" investment houses start saying they've been the best blah, doing florrkle since 1902. Since Charles was the true blah florrkler before his demise.

4) Charles Dow never had a Mouse™.

icebrrrg
Adding one and one since 1902.

If anyone else is interested, come by HH&R! We take your money. Seriously!

Does it have something to do with post 19102 on the HHR board? (Sorry Raggs, but I'm old now and my memory is not so good anymore.)

<sigh> yeah me too.

Anyhow, the 1902 phrase originated on the HH&R board allright cause I stole it from an occasional poster and made it one of the HHIA tag lines since we were so "new" to the financial advisory biz. It was meant to convey expertise and experience where none existed. I.E. a firm which advertises that they have been around since 1902 must be doing something right, right? BZZT! Means the same thing as a promise from a politician, bupkiss; but it looks nice on the ol' letterhead. So now you know.

Which, according to Papi Brrrg, was the year Chucky Dow experienced his own personal bear market.

Yes, and then around December last year we said, "To meow with Y2K -- we're gonna get Y3K compliant!"

And so it was. After the year change, our tag line became, "since 19102."
