If slicing it at the party is the real concern, could you make it a day ahead, cut into slices and place on the wax paper muffin/cupcake things, until the party? That way, they would not have to be cut into slices at the party?

At Chinese buffets, individual, small squares of fancy, mousse-like dessert are often arranged this way. I've had baklava served this way, too.
