30 years is a pretty long time. Going with the previously mentioend "punt" of an idnex fund isn't a bad idea at all.

If I had to pick, i'd probably go with: BRK.B, MKL, KO, PEP, MCD.

That said, IBM, DE, CHRW, and PETM are all runners up, but I certainly don't know them well enough to predict where they're gonna be 30 years from now. Maybe if this was for 5 or 10 year investment...

Also, over a 30 year span, today's valuation is significantly less important than in, say a 5 or 10 yea investment. A 30 year timeframe makes wonderful, but richly valued companies like CL, CLX, MA, V, NKE, SBUX, far attarctive than you'd think at current valuations.
