Financial risk can be notoriously hard to spot, but there is one thing people can be certain of -- we get old. So why do so few people buy long-term care insurance?

In part, it's because only about 20 to 30 percent of the U.S. population is optimally suited to benefit from such coverage, according to a recent study by Boston College's Center for Retirement Research (CRR).
