Hello Goofyhoofy,

I found the graph in the link your provided above particularly interesting, since it charted appliance cost and electrical consumption together.

It offered some explanation for the changes in refrigerator design, but I'd be interested in more detail to understand what changes have resulted.

As a repairman, I also have a bias towards simplicity and long life in appliances. I've seen altogether too many "repairman" busily selling people new equipment rather than repairing what people already have ---and it's made me sceptical of that glib approach.

Indeed, altogether too many contractors offer "repair" service primarily as a way to get access to people's equipment to sell them new equipment whether they need it or not.

As a repairman, my bias was to FIX WHAT PEOPLE HAD, often for quite a reasonable price. If they wanted to buy new equipment, that was fine, but I didn't sell new equipment, so my bias was to fix what people had and let THEM decide when they wanted to replace it.

So perhaps you can appreciate my skepticism about vague claims.
