3130,

I'm 49 and have just sold my business and I'm trying to decide if I want to go back to work or play. I read somewere if you don't contribute to s.s. you lose benefits even though i worked 33 years and contributed the max??

It definitely will have an effect on any potential ability to count on SS for disability payments after five years goes by, and it may have an impact on the amount you draw when eligible to receive normal benefits.
