I've used TurboTax/MacinTax for several years, and have filed the 1040PC form (scannable data sheet) ever since it was first offered.

The IRS sent me a postcard to participate in completely paperless processing. Not even a signature form (they provided a PIN).

With past Electronic filing, the return was sent to a processor, who, for a fee, reformatted the data and then submitted to the IRS. I can't tell from the post card or the IRS Daily Blat site if that middleman is still involved. Does anyone know?

I don't mind spending the $$$ for the tax prep software, because it saves me time. But I'm against paying more than postage to submit my return. Although with this year I'll probably be getting a refund, so IRS processing may justify that expense.
