The prior posts to your questions have given a lot of great advise. I would only add two things.

First, Find out what your 401k money is doing for you. Too many people think their employer is watching out for them on the 401k and they are not. Some plans offer better choices than others but they all offer investment choices and the dicision is yours to make and live with. Make sure you are getting the best results possible with your money in that investment.

Second, on a lighter note, if you read all the posts on this board, by the time you're done you will have most of the answers you need and you will probably be retirement age. :) If not, you should also read the 13 steps to investing Foolishly and spend some time reading about Foolish Four, Rule Maker and Rule Breaker investing. This should be done before you jump into a self managed portfolio of Roth IRA or taxable assets.
