Not long ago I read that Congress is considering an increase in the annual limit for IRA contributions (either traditional or Roth, I believe), from the current $2,000 to $5,000. The purpose: to increase the propensity of people to save aggressively for retirement--and, presumably, take a little pressure off the Social Security system by doing so.

I have not heard anything more about it, however. Does anyone know anything about this? Does it appear likely to become law anytime soon?
