Doesn't it (Amtrak) leave you off in Martinez, then bus you? I don't know of any Amtrak service that goes all the way to SFO. Even if there was, the commute would be very tough. Even if it were direct and the train did 60mph, you'd be spending over 3 hours a day on the train.

Nope-it takes you all the way to SF. However, yes you do spend quite a bit of time on the train. Some find the train an easier commute than driving--but not the fastest way to get there.

. You would be very hard pressed to find good digs in Sacto. for under $175K...

Yeah but that's still cheap next to the majority of Bay area.

BTW, Concord is NOT a short commute.

Oops, you're right. I got carried away with my East Bay cheaper digs list. Some of the places on my list are not short commutes. For example: Downtown SF to Concord on BART takes about 45-50 minutes.
