You might investigate what used to be called "catastrophic health insurance". Basically it covers the cost of hugh unexpected events, i.e. cancer treatement, accidents, or prolonged hopsital stays. You pay for the regular exams and elective surgeries and medicines. (Or some sort of breakdown like that) If you're in good health, have a strong family history of no diseases (i.e. not self inflicted), and aren't planning on an expanding family, it might be something to look into that an individual can afford quite easily.
