I can't beleive were talking much change in overall height and width from 15 to 16 inches. Of course I'm not interested in brake line or fender lip damage.

You should be, Mike... be very careful with the offset of the wheels you consider. You're not making much of a change in diameter perhaps, but as the width of the new wheel increases, proper offset will determine success or failure in your attempts not to build a homemade wheel-well grinder.
