Its very simple. When the movies stop being "Blockbusters", toy sales dry up. Garment makers start putting Nemo on jammies and underwear instead of Spiderman. The franchise ends after two or three movies. No one wants to take a chance on other Marvel characters that aren't so popular and Marvel goes right back to trying make ends meet by selling .25 cent comices for two bucks.
