CPI Calculator ----- give it a test-spin

http://woodrow.mpls.frb.fed.us/research/data/us/calc/

Results for me so far from [1990-2004] show Consumer Price Index going UP annually.
BUT, the CPI for July 2004 is DOWN 1%; an abberation? Or harbinger of more to come?

The explanation I heard was GM lowered prices and sales; I wonder how often that haapens thru the years.
otoh, gas prices showed mighty increases, food and household expenses went up in my experience.

I'm seeking revuisitation of the likelyhood of Deflation----- and what willfools do in that eventuality.
