Has anyone had luck paying off less than the bloated amount the DoEd wants? My loans currently have ~$2000 principal due, plus ~$10,000 "interest" (some of which I dispute) and another $15,000 "fees." I'm in repayment, but under protest. Can you describe how the interest and fees wound up accumulating? how much was the original debt? was there a long period of nonpayment or something? Or is this a collection agency, rather than the Department of Ed themselves? They have a reputation of not being so mercenary about these things, compared to other lenders/servicers... |
