LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ-The Malibu Wave, celebrating their 20th year in the Salt Lake Strato League, will switch managers this year, hiring Chuck Ervin, while Kim Peterson returns to the front office full time. Peterson comments, "I'm not retiring to my Glendale, Utah, farm to spend time with the grandkids, just yet, but need some time off because of some health issues." New Manager Ervin loves small ball and can maybe get the Wave back to the running team that has given them some success in the past. Acquiring OF Brett Gardner for the always frustrating (can't believe he didn't tank again!) 3B Adrian Beltre in mid-2010 was a step in the Ervin direction. Peterson, in spite of being frustrated at the draft, was happy to pick up three strong Top 100 prospects, P Aroldis Chapman, IF Danny Espinoza, and OF Ben Revere. "We really like Revere who was one of the top players for the North Phoenix Horny Toads in the Arizona Fall League. He will fit nicely in a speedy Wave outfield with Gardner and OF Andrew McCutchen. The power will have to come from the infielders, catchers and DH (3B Ryan Zimmerman, 1B Paul Konerko, C Geovanny Soto, SS Juan Uribe, and DH's Russ Branyan and Seth Smith)." It is always interesting how Strato is sometimes a step ahead of real life, the Wave picking up OF Jim Edmonds in the draft, again, just at the St. Louis Cardinals recently signed Jim Edmonds, again....Further Wavelength reports will be forthcoming on the Motley Fool boards and slslonline.com. ROSTER MOVES (2/17/2011): DESIGNATED FOR ASSIGNMENT: C Jesus Flores, IF Akonori Iwamura, OF Gabe Kapler, OF Scott Hairston. C David Ross was REASSIGNED to the Vernal Equinox roster. The Wave appreciate his help with the development of C John Jaso in the Arizona Fall League.
