...I have been investing in mutual funds for my Roth IRA. Instead of mutual funds, can I invest in dividend paying stocks such as JNJ and PG and in MLPs and in REITs like NLY? Would there be any problems, such as in taxes, in investing in dividend stocks, MLPs, and REITs, or is this a good idea rather than mutual funds? Thanks.

I don't know much about MLP's.

For diversification it might be better to invest in mutual funds that invest in dividend paying stocks or a REIT index fund instead of trying to pick and buy these yourself
