When we lived in the Bay Area we must have spent at least ten long weekends there and other shorter periods. It was our favorite getaway.

The hikes we did had strenuous parts, so probably not appropriate for MIL. If you ever have some time on your own, the walk down (and then up) the hundreds of steps to the lighthouse is good. As is the hike out to the tip of the peninsula. Other hikes combine woods and ocean/beach vistas, but I don't remember the names since it's been 13 years since the last time we were there.

On one especially interesting stay, we found ourselves in a B&B in Point Reyes Station owned by Ann Dick, widow of author Philip K. Dick (Bladerunner, Total Recall, others). We slept in the very house where he had written some of my favorite books.
