Central Planning....

Authoritarianism.....

Low wages................

Too much reliance on exports vs organic growth within............

Too much reliance on foreign knowhow...................................

Confusing money with wealth..............................................

Population control............................

Tons that Americans Ruling Class, both Republicans and Democrats could learn from.

Like I've said, the only reasons I think American will remain 'thee' Superpower:

*Fossil Fuel revolution on the way. Drill baby drill, frack baby frack. Tons of middle class jobs will be created, tons of infrastructure investment. (China is terrified of this one, according to their internal studies)

*Our 'competitors' are more screwed than we are. India can't even fix a sports arena without arguing amongst themselves, corruption is at eye-level, and socialist hiring practices are in place. Russia has a birth-dearth. China has what your link stated. Europe will be ok but barely. Their cradle-to-grave schemes are meeting their death in a slow way. Pension reform has not even started yet.

*Sorry, but America's spirit and people are better. More individualistic, more ambitious, more dynamic, more tough. Also, we aren't as militantly secular here, so we're still dabbling in marriage and having kids which is an economic plus that Russia or even Europe would love to have.

What is hobbling us, but we can afford it: We've got a growing underclass coming, Britain style. The fashionable march away from nuclear families, according to all studies adds to poverty, crime, lack of qualifications, and future dependency. It wasn't Jerry Falwell worried about this, it was that Right Wing Fundamentalist Teabagger named Patrick Moynihan.

The question is: Will America be mighty enough to grow, despite the huge underlcass? The trick will be immigrants. Until now we've been great at bringing in productive people, assimilating them, and benefitting whereas in France, they are put onto social services and ambition is stifled. My sincere hope is that our future immigrants reject the freebies and chase something better for their families. IF IF IF that happens, we'll be robust enough to subsidize our underclass and the next century will be owned by america, yet again.

I'm not sure about this last part, hence I've organized my life around a 51% chance that america goes bust.
