Sure, but the issue is that spouse requiring nursing home care can deplete joint assets leaving nothing for surviving spouse to live on.

So elder attorney can help you preserve some minimum assets as allowed by state law. Hence, point is reached earlier where Medicaid takes over for the spouse requiring the nursing home care.

I know the above. I have the divergent opinion that we all aren't destined to die in a medicaid nursing home. If so, the medicaid budget is in deep trouble. It would be nice for people to work on living healthier and better into their old age(no this isn't referring to Alzheimer's but there are loads of other issues where an impact can be made).
