All of the retro pony cars are ridiculously underdeveloped, overstyled, oversize, overwrought, and overweight. So, I agree with your conclusions. With these cars, each of the big 3 had a perfect opportunity to produce the real sports car that all of the car guys working there have dreamed of making. The score? Zero for 3. It's true that the Ford and Chevy perform up to the standard of the day, but it takes a zillion horsepower to push all of that flab around, and it's all over when you turn the steering wheel.

Totally agree. But to be fair - if the goal was to reproduce American muscle cars - the score is 3 for 3. The originals were not "sports" cars, and neither are the homages. Success.

I drove a new ZL1 Camaro 6-speed last week for about half an hour. The drive included winding country road, full throttle, and proper brake bedding session. I was impressed by the retro design take on the gauges. And the sound is way better than a Camry makes. And having a connection to old Camaros myself, it did elicit the whole "cool factor" emotion. But driving it was... meh. Okay it was more fun than my F250 Crew Cab, of course, but it wasn't what I would have hoped for by a long shot.
