Subject:  Are clip-ons for eye glasses deductible? Date:  4/15/2016  3:27 PM

Since I lost my old clip-ons (to provide sun protection) for my prescription glasses and I bought a new pair, I'm wondering, if they are deductible as a medical expense.

Actually my real interest is to claim them as an FSA expense, but when I called the provider to inquire about eligibility, they told me that "if it's deductible as a medical expense, it's eligible". However they couldn't tell me, if it was indeed deductible.

Publication 502 doesn't mention clip-ons, but I understand that prescription sunglasses would be deductible. So I'm wondering, if clip-ons that provide sun protection and are supposed to be used with regular prescription glasses might also be deductible.

Does anyone here know?

Thanks in advance,
