Texas and Canada (among others) give tax breaks and other aid to out of state movie companies.

Michigan used to do the same. The handouts have been sharply cut back in recent years, though Detroit still attracts some interest for appocolyptic films like the "Transformers" series.

The Detroit burb of Allen Park decided to "create jobs" by sinking tens of millions into a movie studio complex to cash in on the traffic generated by the subsidies from Lansing.
