You did not get the newest Shingles shot "years ago" because the newest one did not exist 15 months ago.

The first shingles shot was advertised as lasting a long time. That turns out to be wrong.

Efficacy of old vaccine drops after a few years, dramticaly if you are over 65. Old vaccine is 64% effective vs 97% for the new one for a 65 year old vaccinated at age 50. At 80 the old one is less than 20% effective.
