Battery powered electric vehicles have limitations in heavy freight vehicles including trucks and locomotives. Hydrogen looks more attractive and is getting close attention.

Lets hope it proves economical.

It's worth continuing to explore hydrogen for larger applications, but seems to me that batteries are ahead and pulling away when it comes to transportation green energy storage. Just comparing the results so far for passenger cars, that is a no-contest win for batteries, and I don't see any reason that hydrogen would win easier in trucks or trains.

Maybe some other form of fuel cell than PEM and some other energy storage medium than hydrogen. I.e. SOFC fuel cell with methane, methanol or ethanol seems a lot more feasible to me. But, that's still relatively unproven technology compared to batteries.
