I have a full vial of insulin sitting in my fridge because I was given it by CVS instead of the pens I use. Can't be returned, of course. Expires in 6 months, but I have had it in my fridge for well over a year. As I am in MN, the max anyone pays now for emergency insulin is $35/month.
