Subject: yiddish speakers - anyone? | Date: 4/12/2022 7:25 PM | |

My mother used to say that my grandfather (who never worked a day in his life) depending on his wife (grandma) to eke out a living for the family, that he was living "af kest" or something like that. I can't seem to find that expression anywhere by googling, and no one else in my family speaks Yiddish (and I remember just a bit. Does anyone here know the proper spelling and pronunciation of that term. It was definitely used with distain.....alluding to the fact that g'pa was pretty useless as far as supporting his very large family (he did make babies though...lol). Anyone know or want to take a stab at that expression.... thx |
