A Covid virus, if it ever existed on a can, would be long dead by the time I came along to pick it up.

It might be more accurate to say that the virus "has not been shown to survive..." etc., etc. Then you have to decide if you want to take the alpha or beta risk: That is, will you only be wary of dangers that have been shown to exist, or only accept as safe dangers that have been shown to not exist?

I am not paranoid for myself, but with the quarantine closing things like daycare, my wife is providing occasional infant care to enable a first responder and a medical person to be able to go to work. Also, I may need to check in on my 90-year-old parents. So, I'm extra-careful for those to whom me contracting the virus could be passing along something extremely serious.
