Here's a link to the Roanoke(VA) Times story on Redick's banquet.

"When you get right down to it, that's what Wednesday night was about, a city reclaiming its homegrown prodigy for one night and taking one last bath in the glow.

"That wasn't the event's official name, of course. They called it the "J.J. Redick Recognition Dinner," and technically it was. Local officials recognized him with speeches, recognized him with gifts, recognized him with video tributes.

"But let's be honest: Did Redick truly need another recognition? The former Cave Spring High School standout swept every major college basketball award in existence, taking trips to Los Angeles, Indianapolis and Lexington, Ky., to collect hardware.

"Last week, he went to New York to claim the biggest prize of them all, the James E. Sullivan Memorial Award. That's given to the nation's best amateur athlete -- in any sport, not just basketball. Redick beat out football stars Reggie Bush and Matt Leinhart and a slew of Olympic champions for that one."

In that link you can go to see pictures from his high school and college career.
