A quick note on dead bolts. They are only as good as your door jamb. Often there is less than 1/2 inch of wood behind the stricker plate that catches the bolt which is easy to break. Secondly, the door hinges are often bolted with one inch bolts that are easy to break out. You need to use three inch bolts that go into the wall stud and give support to the hardware used. (That is why the police use the deadblow hammer on the hinge- it is easier most of the time) The bolts are a pain to install without predrilling a pilot hole. Also, use of a door jamb from the inside helps on secondary doors. You can place some kids toys in the yard to look like some poor parent in addition to the other ideas posted for the yard. If you are in a high crime area move if you value your stuff. We house sit at several homes with the services and they are mostly a joke as the law gets so many false alarms they slow up on responding, plus a lot of people forget to set them when leaving. They give a false sense of security and are often sold to new victims. Best of luck.
