A selling commission can be 7% these days. On a $300K property, over $20K. Cross country move another $30K. Buying and selling realtors often split that (usually in the sellers contract), and agent and firm again split (usually with a negotiated deal).

To a major employer hiring a professional that is chump change. Your head hunter may be collecting more than that.

Behind every deal there is someone who brags about how much they saved the company. You run into a bragging rights thing. But the boss can easily overrule that if he/she chooses to do so.
