We have the MI books. They are great. How about a site, where anyone can post their backtests, book suggestions, spreadsheets, etc. A simple Yahoo group would do.
If there is an interest, I would be happy to look into how to start one, and if it is not to hard, I could start it myself.
An existing Yahoo group with not much current activity:http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/holygrailsm/
I have started Yahoo groups in the past. It is quite simple.
Do you think that would be a good place to use to store tests that people have done, or do you think a new group would be better?
The purpose of that group was "the search for the holy grail", so I think it would be appropriate.I was thinking you might get some different perspectives from existing members over there as well. However, if we start up a new group, we'd be more in control of how it operates.Didn't there used to be a mechanical investing Yahoo Group? Yup:http://finance.groups.yahoo.com/group/Mechanical_InvestingBut it got taken over by spammers. So the owner must be gone.
What improvements are being attained over the MF group?
What improvements are being attained over the MF group? The biggest advantage is it has file storage space.I don't think it was suggested as a replacement for the MF group, but as a supplement to it.But the other one was started 12 years ago, and fell out of use.
My idea is that it would just be a repository for book recommendations, people's backtesting that they want to share, and anything else. We could even have a rule that no posting is allowed, so as not to dilute this group. If the consensus is that people want this, then I will investigate it?
I like the idea as it does allow for file storage and sharing. The issue is the membership policing function. I think It's the only way to keep the spam out. Witha large group that function could be a hassle.
Is there a way to only let in mi members? Also, I want to be sure that people want this, before I start the group. Is there a way to do a poll to find out how many people want it?
yes to both. there is some process to identify the group as closed and needing permission from the group moderatoer for membership status. there's the rub.Polls are used here occassionally. Haven't doen one myself but if you search the fool you should be able find out how, or some kind knowledgeable member might help you out.
Oh duh .... look next to post reply later at the top of a post and see:"create poll". It's been there all the time.
