A suppressed AR type rifle in a modern battle worthy caliber makes less noise than a .22LR.

I suppose that's true, I've never fired a suppressed AR type rifle in any caliber.

Then again I don’t run in assassin circles. Only went to war 3x with the Rangers.

The Rangers use .223 don't they? Much more powerful than the .22LR and louder too.

Which caliber you'd choose depends on what you are trying to do with the weapon.

I wouldn't normally hunt deer, bear or even coyote with a .22LR and it would be one of my last choices for self defense.

On the other hand, in a survival situation you may be forced to do so.

Can you legally buy a suppresser nowadays without filling out a bunch of government paperwork?
