A true championship game offers a lot more interest to me than seeing every team in a conference meet.

Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen.

If each team played one another, then your statement shows that your interest is based on rankings and not performance by the teams.

No, the best indication of a team's worth is shown by their performance on the field, not by a poll or computer.

A rivalry is of greatest interest to the participants, not necessarily the rest of the conference unless it answers the question of which is the better of the two in the conference.

Remember when it was a about rivalries and bragging rights? The conference championship game is a good theory, but it is not necessary to have a great season.

The Conference Championship game usually puts to rest, somewhat, the question as to which is the best team. It can not, probably, ever outshine a long time and, usually, bitter rivalry between two opponents.
