My car got damaged by someone parking next to me.

She was nice enough and stayed next to my car until I came out of the store.

I was upset, as she was. It was a parking lot so the police couldn't write up a report.

My question is...

Was I wrong in contacting my insurance and agreeing for them to start the claim?
They gave me a choice of putting in a claim or going through the other parties insurance.
I could not get a straight answer from the claim person one way or another as which way to go.

Without a police report I've been burned before...but the police wouldn't do it.

worried about higher ins. rates due to parked car
