All the technology in the world can't detect something that's not there.
But how do you truly know it is not there?

Because the brain hasn't developed to that point. There is no thought and no sensory input.

Why focus on brain waves?

Your colleague brought it up earlier as being the standard for death, and therefore for life. If you guys can't agree, who's fault is that?

What about the growth of the human after fertilization? That activity can be monitored and is certainly proof of humanity by virtue of ongoing development.

You mean the growth that might result in zero, one, two, three or more humans? Again, you can't quantify it at the earliest stages, which means it's not a human being.

Which is when? It can't be conception, unless you're claiming that there are two souls inside one cell. So does one soul wait until the zygote splits a few days later? How do the souls decide who waits around? By flipping a coin?
How funny, you just can't grasp the possibility of life developing after fertilization unless it happens within your limited realm of understanding.

Emotional outbursts don't constitute an answer.
