Companies to Co-Brand SMES Power Quality and Reliability Solutions

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 2000--American Superconductor (Nasdaq: AMSC - news) and GE Industrial Systems, a division of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE - news), announced today a marketing and sales alliance to provide American Superconductor's Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) systems to utility and industrial customers. The SMES device is applied to improve customers' electrical power performance during system disturbances and high load conditions. Under the terms of the agreement, GE has the exclusive right to offer American Superconductor's Distributed-SMES (D-SMES) product line in the United States to utilities. GE also has the right to sell American Superconductor's industrial Power Quality-SMES (PQ-SMES) systems to certain of GE's global industrial accounts.

GE Industrial Systems and American Superconductor plan to launch the co-branded SMES offering at the Transmission & Distribution World Expo in Cincinnati the week of April 23.
