Am I unusual in that I don't know anyone who has died of AIDS?

Probably not, but it's probably what you said along with the idea that maybe you don't/didn't know many people in the 'risk groups' to contract it in the earlier days (say, 1985-2005). I gather my information about these "risk groups" in part from the questions I was asked back when I used to give blood. From what I know about AIDS (not much), it's no longer much restricted to those groups now.

Sort of like how I don't know anyone who voted for Romney.
