how much money SeattlePioneer will be able to save - or if he will just continue to spend mega-bucks on his current insurance even though a new option is available.

He might not have a choice.

Here in Arizona, after 2014 you won't be able to renew individual policies not offered through the market place.

I thought this might be a workaround to get a ultra-high deductible policy. But no-go.

But just to explain--I am not complaining. It is better to face early retirement with prospect of higher than anticipated health insurance premiums then no insurance at all.
