I have been wondering about how 5G will affect American Tower (AMT). 5G requires a higher concentration of cells than 4G. From what I have found on the internet, it looks as if all three cell tower REITS (AMT, CCI, and SBAC) will benefit from 5G.

The REIT with the largest concentration of small cells is CCI. AMT does have some and Taiclet (CEO of AMT) states that they will be looking to add more. Interestingly, ATT and Verizon have chosen a very small player, Tillman infrastructure, to build out their increasing cell density for 5G. They claim this will be a cost saving measure.

Overall, it looks like 5G will benefit AMT over the long haul, however, in ten years it could be a different set of players serving the overall 5G market.

The following are references that I used in this summary:

James,

Why are you looking to add? What is it about AMT that you find compelling?

A 90% price increase on my first position and a 30% price increase on my second position. Steady growth and a dividend to boot.
