Do you guys need me to explain the difference between an ode and a limerick, or do you want to just Google it?Hey there, LCKitten! Thanks for the post. Wow! I didn't think that would cause any controversy! But, for the record, I will state that my "Ode ot AJ" was neither a classical "ode" nor a classical "limerick."It was not a "classical limerick" (9-9-6-6-9) because the meter was 9-8-5-5-8.It was an "ode" in the sense of the modern usage ("irregular ode") which endorses an unstructured meter. Thus, a "haiku" can be an "ode" if it is titled as such and pays hommage or praise to some person, place, or thing. The post to which you replied was deleted (as were a number of others) - such a pity! However, you are quite correct that all those pundits penning antagonististic verse were not penning an "ode", since, by rudimentary definition, an "ode" invokes praise and respect.OleDocOJ:AJ walks into Junior Seau's for a drink in the afternoon. He looks around but no one is tending the bar.He asks a bosomy young waitress, "Is the bar tender here?"She gives him her moves and replies, "Sure enough, cowboy! Do you want a bite?"
Sainted AJ is martyred and blessedBy his worshippers praising with zest. But a few of us feelThat it's not a big deal...By his absence we don't feel distressed
Joe is a funny ol' blokewho knows how to throw in a good joke. But he doesn't deserve praiseto the point of butts raisedHe is just different from other HURL folk.
