Seems like a lot of people love avocado. Why?

My wife and I both have tried it at various times, like when it comes in salads and Mexican foods, even trying to truly "savor" it, straight, with no dressing or whatever, and it always seems the same: yuck!

What is its appeal, please?

The consistency seems very much toothpaste, and there seems to be VERY little "flavor" of any kind, so why is it popular?

What are we missing?
