Thanks for all the responses. I believe boats, ham radios, motorcyles, and expense escrows are all great. One of my best friends has a Gold Wing that he and his wife travel all around the country during the summer. DW and I are big adults only, all inclusive vacation folks ie. Mexico, Barbados, Jamacia etc; we take several each year and will continue to do so after we retire.

Here is another question. TMF retirement gurus talk about safe withdrawal rates being 3 to 5%. Here is the senerio, when I retire I have the estimated 500K in my 401K that I mentioned in the other post, I convert it to a self directed IRA and buy 30 year bonds paying 5%. It seems to me that I would not only get a 5% guaranteed return but it would also guarantee my principal for the thirty years. So is that the same as a 5% withdrawal rate? Is it better than or not as good as?

Thanks again for your input,
