Looking for a Sanity Check from those of you with more experience...

My wife and I have just decided to work full time at starting a home based software business... Our plan is to produce software for the home market (financial management, educational, etc...) not to hire ourselves out as contractors... My wife will do the graphics, I'll design and build the programs...

The core of my question is how realistic is it to make a living doing this? We are both 40 and years away from retirement but are financially secure (i.e. The business needs to generate income to live off of giving us a moderate lifestyle, but we have plenty of savings for retirement if we leave it alone.)

I was able to find the following survey http://www.asp-shareware.org/polls/sept04poll.asp which I interpret as saying you can make a living at this but would appreciate any thoughts.

Mike
