Always distressed oversomething, Sky is falling,Worry ..worry ...worry that everything is spinning out of control ...

If so ... Could be one "Thump" away from "The Big One" ( and we ain't talk'n Bill Clinton)

Long-term studies by Johan Denollet, a psychologist at Tilberg University in the Netherlands, have identified a group of people who consciously suppress the high degree of emotional distress they experience in life. Because these Type D (distressed) personalities are pessimistic worriers who are uncomfortable being around other people, they rarely get the relief that emotional connectedness can bring.

The Dutch researchers tracked the health of subjects classified as Type D's to compare them to other patients who'd enrolled in a cardiac rehabilitation program. After eight years, 27 percent of the Type D's had died, most from heart attacks or strokes, compared to only 7 percent of the non-Type D's.

Type D has replaced the Type A for being known as the deadly personality type. Back in the 1950s the theory was that the hard-driving, ambitious Type A's were at greater health risk than the more relaxed, noncompetitive Type B's. But decades of research found no correlation between Type A's and heart disease.

So, per the above article ... you had best rush off to the web site

http://www.achievinghappiness.com/

Where you can learn about

Feeling positive emotions about the past, present and future by transforming your negative emotions into forgiveness, optimism, pleasure and gratification.

Ohhhh ... Forget that .... I just read the next page ... Conservatives only ...

A scientific basis for understanding and elevating happiness:

H is your enduring level of happiness

S represents your inherited set range of responsiveness

E encompasses the external circumstances of your life:

Working in a wealthy democracy
Being married
Avoiding negative events and emotions
Acquiring a rich social network
Being religious/spiritual
Having a mentor
I involves the internal factors under your voluntary control:

Positive view of the past
Optimism about the future
Satisfaction regarding the present
Commitment to good character

But since all conservatives care about is wealth and power, what is the relevance of either of these articles.

But since all conservatives care about is wealth and power

Now I am missing something ....

What is wrong with wealth and power ?

It Creates Jobs

It Creates Taxes

It Creates Innovation and New Industry

It Creates investment for further expansion of industry, making more jobs and generating more taxes.

It contributes to charitable groups

It contributes to Higher Education

It contributes to Private Scholarships

It creates independence

The Businesses it creates the demand for the support businesses others will create, creating more jobs and taxes.

If you look at the Volume of jobs created by Bill Gates initial drive to develop a product. The Jobs, Taxes, support businesses, their employees and taxes, retailers, look at the monies given away by Gates, the Billions made by investors in Gates company and the Taxes they paid on those Billions .... Trillions?

"all conservatives care about is wealth and power "

Face it .... without wealth and power, there would be no free lunch for those with no initiative.

Very interesting, Bears. A discussion today on the Mishedlo board about how being optimistic is good for the heart. In the posted article, a reference to the "Nun Study". Had to check that out.

Apparently, there is a strong correlation between "positive" sentiments expressed by these 180 nuns in their youth (22 yrs. old av.) and longevity. Interesting the lengths to which the study went to "code" the statmements in these autobiographies written by the youthful nuns. There is another study mentioned that showed a correlation between early optimism and early death--due to engaging in risky behaviour (I'm optimistic I can beat that train to the crossing! etc.)--but what the heck.

I see the nuns were hit by Katrina, but all are well, and the nuns will no doubt look on the bright side of things.

Sounds like everyone who voted for Bush as a result of the administration's constant fearmongering, if you ask me.

..Nah, they're type "F" ;) ...

Better than:

Confinement, Physical or Mental Disability (4-F)

And speaking of folks of 4-F classification, how does the "Nun Study" correlation between small head size and increased chance of dementia explain this:

or this

Both with giant (talking) heads, and yet both clearly suffering from advanced dementia.

Science schmience.
