Are some people incapable of understanding generalizations?

The problem here is that the generalizations are regarded as an accurate description of a broad number of people. If you were to substitute African-American, Jew, Latino, Arab, etc. instead of Christian, deist, Muslim, believer, etc. for those you find fault with, you would rightly be regarded as a bigot.

Come to think of it, there's been a big head shaking on this board about the demented schlub who shot up his congregation. Yeah, right. Christianity led him to mass murder

Interestingly enough, however, the fact that the Atlanta shooter was African-American bears not one comment. It's OK to blame the Wisconsin shooting on religion, since that's the brand of bigotry is the one that's tolerated here.

I wonder how many of the so-called well-educated denizens of this board will jump to the conclusion that I am a racist because I point out a fact. I no more relate the Atlanta shooter to race that I relate the Wisconsin shooting to the shooter's religion. Crazies abound everywhere.

I wonder what would happen if I started blaming Naziism on Darwin? After all, no Darwin, no concept of Social Darwinism (aided and abetted by Herber Spencer). No Social Darwinism, no Naziism (at least not a racism that tried to cloak its evil under the guise of scientific respectability). Social Darwinism in its most virulent form has been responsible for millions of deaths.

Then there are the Communists, especially the Stalinists, good atheists all. Responsible for quite a few deaths in their own right. Surely atheism can't be at the root of all those murders.
