One grayling nutjob offered the VA hospital as a great example of government run medicine. Here is yet another example of what it is so wrong.

Often when I was on call, we took calls from the "attending" ward. The ward that was run by the staff at the VA that didn't have teaching responsibilities with residents. Often these calls involved patients that had basics ignored, like IV fluids to keep them hydrated. I remember one particular case of an 70 year old man unresponsive, low blood pressure, taccycardic, and dry tentable skin. He looked a few minutes away from death. Gave the guy a liter of IV fluids and started him on some mantainence. Checked on him the next day, sitting up, talking, and chowing down breakfast like a starving castaway.
